Norwalk Podiatrist Looking for Old Soles
Sound Foot Care Center of Connecticut partners with Soles4Souls;
launches shoe drive to benefit ‘Project Haiti’

Norwalk, Conn. (February 2, 2010) - Norwalk podiatrist Dr. Harris Greenberger is taking strides to help those effected by Haiti’s 7.0 magnitude earthquake. To help with relief efforts, Sound Foot Care of Center of Connecticut is collecting new and gently worn shoes to donate to Haiti in partnership with Soles4Souls. Proceeds from the first phase of the shoe drive will benefit Soles4Souls’ ‘Project Haiti,’ which will donate more than 1 million pairs of shoes to areas affected by the 7.0 magnitude earthquake.

“Since I am unable to travel to Haiti myself and provide assistance, I wanted to find a meaningful way to help those devastated by the earthquake,” said Dr. Harris Greenberger, founder of Sound Foot Care Center of Connecticut. “We are excited to partner with Soles4Souls and look forward to helping them achieve their objective of donating 1 million pairs of shoes to Haiti.”

According to SolesforSouls.org, there are 1.5 billion unused pairs of shoes sitting in American closets alone. It also estimated that Americans discarded more than 300 million pairs of shoes in 2008 alone.

“As we struggle to comprehend the magnitude of this disaster, we cannot forget how important basic necessities – such as shoes – will be in the ongoing rescue and rebuilding efforts,” said Wayne Elsey, Founder and CEO of Soles4Souls. “We deeply appreciate the support of Sound Foot Care Center of Connecticut and their patients in helping us provide shoes to survivors and volunteers as they work in horrific conditions.”

Soles4Souls is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that collects shoes and distributes them free of charge to people in need, regardless of race, religion, class, or any other criteria. Since 2005, Soles4Souls has given away over 5.5 million pairs of new and gently worn shoes. In January 2010, it established Project Haiti, a grassroots campaign to engage the general public in collecting footwear and funds for victims of the 7.0 earthquake that devastated the Western Hemisphere's poorest country.

Donations of new or gently worn shoes are accepted Mon-Fri from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. and can be dropped off at Sound Foot Care Center of Connecticut, located at 148 East Avenue, Suite 2G, Norwalk, Conn. For more information, please call 203.866.7686.
