What is Heel Pain?
Heel Pain is a common foot problem that affects millions of Americans everyday. Years of pounding your feet daily on hard surfaces, having an abnormal gait, being overweight, wearing poor-fitting shoes or a foot injury can cause this stress, which can then lead to inflammation, redness and swelling.
What causes Heel Pain?
The most frequent cause of heel pain is inflammation of the plantar fasciitis, a band of tissue along the bottom of your foot that connects your heel bone to your toes. This “shock-absorber” supports your foot’s arch, but when put under too much stress, can stretch and tear causing pain under the heel and inflammation.
Also to blame are heel spurs, bony growths underneath the heel bone, Achilles tendinitis, and excessive Pronation, an uneven inward motion while walking.
How does the NeuroTherm treatment work?
NeuroTherm is a foot therapy that uses radiofrequency energy to disrupt heel nerve function, stopping the nerve from transmitting pain to the foot.
What happens during the procedure?
The NeuroTherm Treatment uses a thin needle, which your doctor will insert near the point of your foot pain. Once the needle is properly placed, with the help of an ultrasound image, the area is numbed and radiofrequency energy will then be emitted to disrupt the nerve problem.
How long does the procedure take?
The entire NeuroTherm treatment takes only 25 minutes.
Is there a recovery period?
No. You will be able to walk out on your own immediately after the NeuroTherm procedure. When you are ready to leave, you will be given discharge instructions from your doctor. You may feel some soreness for one to four days, as well as foot weakness, numbness or itchiness. Full heel pain relief normally comes 4-6 weeks after the procedure.
Does it really work?
Clinical studies show a 92% success rate for complete heel pain relief with the NeuroTherm treatment.
Will my heel pain come back?
Nerves do regenerate naturally, even after NeuroTherm therapy, but how long this takes varies person to person. Your pain may or may not return when the nerve regenerates, but if it does, another treatment can be done.
Why radiofrequency?
Radiofrequency (RF) products have been used by pain physicians to successfully treat chronic pain for decades, but until now, no treatments specifically for the feet were available. RF treatments are a proven technique to treat chronic pain—efficient, safe and painfree.
Who developed NeuroTherm?
A group of leading podiatrists teamed up with NeuroTherm, the world’s leading developer of radiofrequency (RF) generating systems, to develop an RF system suitable for treating chronic foot pain. Their efforts resulted in the NeuroTherm NT-250 radiofrequency generator was specifically designed for the use in treating pain associated with Plantar Fasciitis and Neuroma.
Will my insurance cover it?
Reimbursement for this procedure is widely recognized by Medicare and most private insurers.
